The Art of Protest

hope is strong activism art

Friday 23 February 2018

The first in a series of Live Lates this spring marking our Protest and Activism season. We invite our visitors to get up close and personal with renowned artistic talents as they create live murals inspired by our Hope is Strong exhibition.

The event features three walls of live mural painting from leading local artists Zoe GendersJim McElvaney and Tom J Newell.  An interactive graffiti wall will allow you to make your mark about what issues are important to you. Skull and Heart Studio will be displaying latest editions of music and protest inspired prints and Sheffield Print Club will be joining us with live protest poster screen printing. You’ll also have the chance to design your own protest banner or badge in our interactive craft activities.

See work by one of the world’s foremost politically motivated artists, Ai Weiwei, alongside Jeremy Deller‘s The Battle of Orgreave Archive (An Injury to One is an Injury to All), chronicling the confrontations between police and striking miners in South Yorkshire in the Hope is Strong exhibition space which will be open throughout the event.

We’ll be soundtracking the event and our pay bar will be open all night.
